Staying Safe On Campus After Dark

Oct. 11, 2017

Since the Fall season began on September 22nd, 2017, it is getting darker earlier in the evening. When daylight savings time begins on November 5th, 2017, it will be getting dark even earlier. Therefore, this is a good time for us to remind students, faculty, and staff to remain vigilant at all times and take the following actions to ensure your own safety especially at night and on weekends:

  • Remain vigilant of your surroundings.
  • Pre-program the number for University Police in your cell phone for use in an emergency: (702) 895-3669. Remember: when you dial 9-1-1 from a non-campus phone you are calling the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and they will forward your call to the UNLV Police Services Emergency Communication & Dispatch Center. Pre-programming your phone will expedite your call. You can also shorten call times by downloading UNLV’s RebelSAFE mobile safety app. The app contains a function that allows you to directly call the UNLV Police Department Emergency Communications Center on your smartphone without first contacting Las Vegas Metro Dispatch. The app can be downloaded by visiting iTunes, the Google Play Store, or visiting the department’s RebelSAFE page.
  • Campus security escorts are available by calling UNLV Police Services 24 hours a day at (702) 895-3668.
