Statement from Dean Uscher regarding the passing of Mary Wilson

Feb. 9, 2021

It is with deep sadness that Dean Nancy Uscher and the UNLV College of Fine Arts acknowledge the passing of  legendary performer and friend, Mary Wilson.

"We in the College of Fine Arts were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Mary Wilson, a legendary artist and distinguished member of the Las Vegas and global entertainment community," said Dean Uscher. "Ms. Wilson honored our college with her presence at the Hall of Fame several years ago to celebrate the induction into the HOF of her dear friend Claudette Robinson. We all mourn the loss of Mary Wilson, whose work will continue to be celebrated as an enduring contribution to the arts and entertainment."

Ms. Wilson also was a 2008 guest speaker in the College of Fine Arts History of Rock class and gave UNLV students a behind the scenes look at the real history of Motown. Professor Timothy Jones remembers it as an incredible class with many musical examples, as she sang and demonstrated dance moves made famous by The Supremes.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
