Statement condemning acts of violence, racism, xenophobia and misogyny

Mar. 18, 2021

Dear University Community,

We join with others to condemn the horrific acts of violence that recently took place in Atlanta, where women and members of the Asian community were targeted. This connects to a disturbing trend over the last year in the increase of violence against Asians, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, a reality that is frighteningly familiar for people of color. Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. Our call to action goes out to the university and the broader community to speak out against violence, racism, misogyny, and xenophobia, to protect each other and to stand together.

We invite our university community to reach out for support and utilize resources at UNLV. Be safe and well.

Warm regards,

Keith E. Whitfield, Ph.D.
