Standing Ovation for an Outstanding Honors Student

Aeriel Halstead speaks at UNLV Foundation Dinner
Dec. 19, 2013

Aeriel Halstead, a high-school valedictorian with big aspirations, had universities across the nation clamoring for her attention. Like many high-achieving students, she chose UNLV largely because of the Honors College. Aeriel’s humble upbringing and support from scholarships at UNLV have ignited a passion for giving back to her community. Currently dual majoring in Psychology and Communication Studies, Aeriel plans to pursue her Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology with the intent of helping non-profit organizations expand their reach and impact in our region.

Aeriel electrified a crowd of more than 800 donors, students, faculty, and community leaders as the featured student speaker at the UNLV Foundation Annual Dinner on November 16th. The event highlights how donors have helped the university improve programs, reach into the Southern Nevada community, and enrich the lives of students.

In this heartfelt speech, Aeriel explains why she choose UNLV and the Honors College.
