This discussion will (1) outline the structural elements of an effective letter; (2) how to judge whether to accept or decline when asked to write a letter; (3) provide tips on information you need to produce a compelling narrative; (4) suggest current best practices on letter content; and (5) share model letters. Tuesday, April 2, 2:00 - 3:30 pm, Active reading Workshop
Lied Library, Pioche Room (1144)
Research has shown that reading with a purpose and active mindset leads to retention of more information for a longer time period. Active reading, at the most fundamental level, refers to an active process of questioning that helps one determine what one’s needs are and whether the material is worth reading in the first place; then, it provides a context and framework for learning. By attending this workshop, you will learn skills that will eventually become habits to improve your reading and comprehension. Register today!
