School of Music Postdoctoral Scholar Headed to Spain as Guest Lecturer

UNLV College of Fine Arts postdoctoral scholar Dr. Ivan Ivanov is on his way to Spain to be a guest lecturer/ performer July 2nd at the Tenth Annual International Postgraduate Course in Musical Composition at the Universitat Polytecnica de Valencia.

Dr. Ivanov's lecture-performance will be on surrealism in the music of Leonardo Balada, a subject he also addresses in depth in his forthcoming book "Leonardo Balada and Surrealism in Music," which will soon be published by Routledge U.K., the world's leading academic publisher in the humanities and social sciences. Additionally, as a result of his collaboration with Leonardo Ballada at Carnegie Mellon University, Ivan will be releasing a new CD in November, "The Clarinet Music of Leonardo Balada," on the Naxos label. Dr. Ivanov's future lectures/ performances on the topic of surrealism in music and art include appearances this year at the Luxembourg Conservatory, California Institue of the Arts, the UNLV University Forum and the University of Arizona.

As a UNLV postdoctoral scholar, the Bulgarian-born Dr. Ivanov is engaged in research, teaching and creative activities; including grant writing, performances and lectures; and he also teaches graduate classes. In September 2019, Ivanov will present the U.S. premiere of UNLV composition professor Dr. Diego Vega's clarinet concerto with the UNLV Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Taras Krysa.
