Resolution to support AB 202 and BDR 382

Jan. 23, 2019

Approved January 22, 2019

Whereas Bill 202 of the Nevada Assembly in 2017 established the Interim Committee to Conduct a Study Concerning the Cost and Affordability of Higher Education, and the AB202 Committee completed its study in 2018;

And Whereas establishing a sustainable compensation plan and in-rank salary increases for professional employees and faculty is the first priority in the AB 202 Committee recommendations;

And Whereas this priority has resulted in a Bill Draft Request (BDR) 382 to the 2019 Nevada Legislature that authorizes a sustainable compensation plan and recommends funding specifically assigned to address faculty salaries;

Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate of UNLV strongly supports the resulting Bill Draft Request 382 to establish a sustainable salary compensation plan and in-rank salary increases so as:

  • to retain and hire high quality faculty;

  • to allow flexibility for individual NSHE institutions to assign salary increases

    according to needs without constraints or limitations;

  • to sustain the highest standards of teaching, research, and service for the benefit

    of our students and the state of Nevada.
