As many of you are aware, Dr. Lee Bernick is stepping down as Interim Dean of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs. Dr. Bernick has successfully led the College through the four most difficult years in the history of the University. Beyond keeping the college together, he managed the move to the new building, welcomed the Lincy Institute and Brookings Mountain West, and oversaw the expansion of UNLV media outlets. Please join me in thanking Lee for his service to the College and University.
As the search for a Dean for the College continues, I am delighted to announce that Dr. David R. Henry, Chair of Communication Studies, has agreed to serve as Interim Dean effective July 1, 2013. Dr. Henry brings a distinguished scholarly record and several years of successful service as Chair to the position. I am confident that he will provide stable leadership through this extended dean search process.
In selecting an interim dean, I solicited nominations from the Dean Search Committee and from the faculty at large. The committee suggested four names and I received four names from non-committee members on the faculty. In selecting Dr. Henry, I sought to stick with names suggested by the committee, identify an interim dean whose appointment would produce the least disruption to the college, and select someone who could continue the Committee’s work, developing a College-wide faculty investment in the strategic vision the committee produced. The appointment of Dr. Henry is consistent with all of these goals.
