Parking & Transportation Construction Updates
Parking & Transportation Services has the following construction projects planned for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. These improvements are part of the overall campus parking and transportation plan to improve access to and circulation around campus.
Tropicana Parking Garage Expansion
UNLV is expanding the Tropicana Parking Garage into what is currently the Red Lot. The expansion will increase the garage’s capacity by approximately 758 spaces, ultimately improving traffic flow and addressing the need for additional on-campus parking. The existing Tropicana Parking Garage will remain open for the duration of the project.
Construction will take place as follows:
- Project timeline: September 2021 - August 2022
- Working hours: Monday - Friday, approximately 6 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Work hours may vary depending on the weather and season
- Lot closure: Red Lot
There should be limited disruptions during working hours. Workers will muffle construction noise as much as possible by placing silencers on equipment. Nighttime lighting will be directed into the construction zone and away from buildings. The access road on the east side of the construction site will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the duration of construction.
Note: Construction will not impact student move-in week for the Dayton Residential Complex between August 16 and August 21. The “Red Lot” will be available for parents and students for parking for moving in.
The Dayton Complex side of the construction site will not be fenced off to allow parents and students to park during "move-week" of August 16 until Saturday, August 21.The rest of the construction site will be fenced off with minor construction activities.
Alternate parking is available at the following locations:
- Tropicana Parking Garage
- Scarlet Lot
- Resident Lot A
HAB / GRS Parking Improvements
The area between the Graduate Arts Studios (GRS) building and the Harmon Auxiliary Building (HAB) is being combined into one lot with surface improvements for additional faculty, staff, and student parking. Both lots will be closed during construction. This project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2021.
New Parking Lot on Maryland Parkway
The area across Maryland Parkway from the Student Union with access to Del Mar St. will be developed as a new faculty, staff, and student parking lot. The new “Del Mar Lot” will contain 100 new parking spaces. Construction is contained to the site itself with minimal disruption to campus. This project is ongoing and will be completed by the end of 2021.
If the need arises for any additional road or parking lot closures due to the construction for these projects, they will be announced via email and on the Parking & Transportation Services website.
