Parking News for the 2018-2019 Academic Year

Jul. 31, 2018

It is once again time for everyone to renew their parking permits for the upcoming academic year.  The registration process will begin on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

We would like to remind everyone that a ten year permit fee schedule was implemented in 2013, outlining three permit fee increases through the fall of 2022.  This year happens to be the second increase in that series.  Permit types and prices are posted at Meter rates will also increase by $.25 per hour to promote increased turnover of these spaces for our campus visitors.

On a side note related to permits, parking placard abuse for handicap spaces has improved considerably over the last ten years, but continues to be an issue on our campus.  In an effort to curb this abuse and provide more open accessible spaces, a fine of $500 will go into effect on August 1, 2018 for anyone using a placard belonging to another individual.  This seems to be the most common form of misuse.

Over the last year there have also been several projects to provide additional parking on our campuses.  On the west side of Lot I (northeast of Lied Library), the motorcycle parking has been expanded to make room for approximately 40 motorcycles, the Visitor Lot (Maude Frazier Way and Maryland Parkway) was expanded slightly to accommodate 6 additional metered spaces, Lot L (north side of Harmon Avenue south of MPE) was expanded to provide 71 additional staff and student spaces, and a new parking lot was created north of the Shadow Lane Campus to provide 213 additional student spaces.  Parking and Transportation Services will also be performing major maintenance in most of the parking lots over the coming year and continue planning for the next parking garage when a location has been identified.

Your support as we continue to provide additional parking and plan for future parking developments is greatly appreciated.
