Operationalizing Intersectionality in the Academy

Jan. 29, 2018

The Intersection is so pleased to welcome UCLA Law Professor, Kimberlé Crenshaw to UNLV April 19, 2018! Dr. Crenshaw comes as our special guest to commemorate our one-year anniversary. Our name - The Intersection - comes from the term “intersectionality” coined by Professor Crenshaw in 1989.

Dr. Crenshaw, a leading scholar of critical race theory, is best known for the introduction and development of intersectional theory - the theory of "how overlapping or intersecting social identities, particularly minority identities, relate to systems and structures of oppression, domination, or discrimination."

Crenshaw's visit includes discussion with Boyd School of Law faculty and staff, a meet and greet in The Intersection, and  a presentation on operationalizing intersectionality in academia.
