New temporary, per-credit surcharge on student accounts
As of July 28, 2020, students will see a new, temporary, per-credit surcharge on your MyUNLV student account. The surcharge is effective for Academic Year 2020-2021.
For undergraduate courses, this charge is $6 per credit hour, and for graduate courses, it is $8 per credit hour.
The surcharge does not apply to courses through the Boyd School of Law, School of Dental Medicine, or School of Medicine because these professional programs have different tuition models.
The surcharge is part of the Nevada System of Higher Education’s response to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The university, faculty, staff, and students all help offset a $50.5 million cut to UNLV’s operating budget. To this end, the university has instituted a hiring freeze, applied across-the-board salary reductions for faculty and staff, and reduced other expenses.
The state also cut $45 million from UNLV’s capital budget, which would have supported the new medical education and engineering buildings.
These are challenging times, and many are facing significant hardships, including our students and their families. We are working to minimize the budget cuts' affect on students.
