Justin McVay, a former advisor at the UNLV Business Startup Center, has been appointed director of the center.
As director of the center, he will help foster strong working relationships and collaboration in the startup community between the university, its students and faculty, and the greater Las Vegas valley. Previously, McVay worked as the IT industry specialist for the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development. There, he led and supported economic and business development strategies, interagency state programs, and multi-departmental working groups on startup assistance, workforce development, strategic business recruitment and expansion, and legislation and policy issues to grow the technology industry and ultimately create jobs in Nevada. Prior to that, McVay held senior roles directing communications, PR, and marketing throughout the Las Vegas gaming, travel, tourism, and hospitality industries and earlier served as a Public Affairs Officer in the United States Air Force.
McVay holds an MBA from the John Sperling School of Business at the University of Phoenix, a graduate certification in dispute resolution from the MIT-Harvard Public Disputes Program at Harvard Law, and a bachelor of arts in communication and information sciences from the University of Alabama. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Technology Business Alliance of Nevada and the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board IT Sector Council.
The UNLV Business Startup Center seeks to provide startup and small business development assistance to the local community and surrounding region and to serve the entrepreneurial needs of the campus community.
