Nevada Esports Alliance Launched

Feb. 13, 2017

The Nevada Esports Alliance (NVEA), a new nonprofit organization comprised of stakeholders in Nevada's esports ecosystem, was launched on Feb. 9. The NVEA will provide information and resources that educate and promote the development of best practices at the intersection of the esports and regulated gambling industries, such as casino integration of esports, legal and regulatory processes, game development, and competition infrastructure. It aims to position Nevada as a core part of the esports phenomenon, making it a global esports hub.

NVEA’s founding members include Brett Abarbanel, UNLV International Gaming Institute’s director of research; Jennifer Roberts, UNLV International Center for Gaming Regulation’s associate director; Seth Schorr, CEO of Fifth Street Gaming and chairman of the Downtown Grand; Chris Grove, of Narus Advisors and Eilers & Krejcik Gaming.

"Esports has had significant global impact,” said Abarbanel. “We're aiming to foster Nevada's role in this domain by bringing together stakeholders from all areas of esports, including industry, regulatory, academic, and more."

Nevada already has a thriving esports ecosystem, thanks to a first-of-its-kind esports lab at UNLV, several esports teams and startups that call Nevada home, and the dozen-plus esports events this year that are anticipated to attract more than 100,000 unique visitors to Las Vegas. To help grow this ecosystem, the NVEA will curate relevant research for members, host events to educate and inform, and create a membership network that cultivates new partnerships among a variety of stakeholders.

NVEA membership is open to anyone interested in supporting Nevada's emergence as both an esports destination and a locus for commercial, regulatory, and legal best practices at the intersection of video games and gambling. Initial members of the NVEA include the UNLV International Gaming Institute and International Center for Gaming Regulation, Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC), GameCo, Leet, Millennial Esports, Narus Advisors, Unikrn, and William Hill US.
