Tarkanian Way Closure for the National Finals Rodeo


Tarkanian Way from Harmon Avenue to the White Lot west of the Thomas and Mack Center (TMC) will be closed Saturday night, December 2, 2017 through Sunday, December 17, 2017 for the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). The closure on the 2nd will not take place until after any sporting events scheduled for that day have concluded and will reopen on Monday, December 18, 2017. For those individuals wanting to access Tropicana Avenue from Harmon Avenue, please use the drive west of the Lied Library. This route will lead to the access road north of the TMC and ultimately to the drive leading out to Tropicana. The access road will be available until 5:15 p.m. weekdays. Brief closures of this access prior to the above time are possible when horses, etc. are on the roadway. Harmon Avenue to Swenson or Paradise should be used after this time. Updates will be provided as they are received. Normal traffic patterns will resume beginning Monday, December 18, 2017. National Finals Rodeo Parking Lot Impacts
The following schedule reflects parking lot impacts in preparation for and during the National Finals Rodeo.

Sunday, December 3, 2017
The far eastern portion of the White Lot will be held for the Pro Rodeo Zone and will reopen on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Thursday, December 7, 2017
The Black VIP Lot south of the Thomas and Mack Center will be closed to all faculty, staff & students after 10:00 a.m. on each event day. The lot will be open for normal use on Monday, December 18, 2017.

Thursday, December 7, 2017 through Saturday, December 16, 2017
The following areas will be utilized for NFR activities:
White Lot (south/southeast of the Campus Services Building) - The near eastern portion of this lot will be used for NFR shuttle transportation. (approximately 750 spaces to include the pro rodeo zone).
Black VIP Lot (directly south of the Thomas and Mack Center) - This lot will be closed during the times stated above (approximately 320 spaces after 10:00 a.m.)
Naples Lot (north/northeast of the Campus Services Building) – The first two rows of this lot will be used for participant parking (approximately 330 spaces after 10:00 a.m. The far west half of the lot will be used for bus and limo transportation, with the central remaining portion of the lot open for student parking up until 2:00 p.m. daily.

Monday, December 18, 2017
Tarkanian Way will re-open for normal use on Monday, December 18, 2017.

ALTERNATIVE PARKING – Additional parking is available in Lot T throughout the day south of the Stan Fulton Building (north side of campus west of the Flamingo access road). For individuals that wish to avoid the traffic and parking challenges starting Thursday, December 7, 2017, additional garage parking is typically available at various times after approximately 3:00 p.m. in the Cottage Grove Parking Garage (north side of campus on Cottage Grove Avenue), and in the University Gateway Garage (on Maryland Parkway south of Café Rio).

 

EVENT STAFF – Part-time staff working the event will park off campus.

ADDITIONAL TRAFFIC INFORMATION - It will be necessary for a brief amount of time in the evenings to redirect traffic at the Wilber entrance off of Tropicana Avenue. This enables the event staff to direct the attendees to the parking area across Swenson Avenue and to the White Lot once the Black Lot is full. All University permit holders will still be allowed access to the Tropicana Parking Garage, which will be staffed to control space availability. The heaviest inflow of traffic to the area will be between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on a typical workday. Please plan accordingly. Message boards will be placed in the area and a Clark County traffic technician will be on site to assist with traffic lights.
