Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. Student Receives Fellowship Certificate and Wings

On May 15, Zonta International Vice President Sharon Langenbeck visited UNLV to award UNLV Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. student Maria De Lourdes Ramos Gonzalez a certificate and wings. Ramos Gonzalez was one of 35 individuals worldwide to receive Zonta International's prestigious Amelia Earheart Fellowship last year. The fellowship is given to women pursuing a doctoral degree in an engineering- or aerospace-related field.

Ramos Gonzalez aims to develop, build and test a long-range unmanned aerial vehicle.

Since the program’s inception in 1938, Zonta International has awarded 1,543 Amelia Earhart Fellowships, totaling more than $9.7 million, to 1,114 women from 71 countries.
