Journalism School Launches Photojournalism Contest

The Hank Greenspun School of Journalism & Media Studies launched a photojournalism contest this semester for undergraduate and graduate journalism students. Sponsored by Canon, the contest is an integral component of the journalism school’s mission to put classroom education into professional practice. The contest will be judged by respected photojournalists and community members. The theme of the contest is “Solutions Start Here,” and student work will focus on portraying problems that exists in the community and solutions that are being developed. - Contest judges include: Rehan Choudhry, CEO of A Beautiful Perspective, a media and events company, and he is the founder of Life is Beautiful Festival; Erik Kabik, lead photographer for MediaPunch in Las Vegas; Steve Marcus, Las Vegas Sun photographer and the Greenspun Media Group; Aaron Mayes, curator for Visual Materials at UNLV Libraries Special Collection; and Chitose Suzuki, assistant photo editor for the Las Vegas Review Journal.
- Student work will be acknowledged at the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Awards Ceremony in April. Winning photos will be displayed throughout Greenspun Hall.
- Two Canon EOS 6D Full Frame DSLR cameras will be awarded, thanks to Canon. One camera will be awarded to the first place winner of a multiple image story category, and one camera will be awarded to the first place winner of a single image category.
