Executive Vice President and Provost Names Dr. Jennifer Keene as Dean for the College of Liberal Arts
The UNLV Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is pleased to announce Jennifer Keene, Ph.D., as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, effective July 1, 2019.
Dr. Keene has been serving as interim dean of the college since August 2018, when she stepped in for Chris Heavey, Ph.D., who has taken on the role of senior vice provost.
She is an active member of the UNLV community and serves on numerous committees across campus. Dr. Keene joined the UNLV faculty in 2001 after completing her graduate work at Florida State University. In 2005, she won the UNLV College of Liberal Arts William Morris Teaching Award and the UNLV Alumni Association Award for Student-Centeredness. She received the 2017-2018 Faculty Award for Excellence for outstanding service to our community and students from the UNLV Division of Educational Outreach.
Dr. Keene has served as the associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts since 2013 and became executive associate dean in 2016.
“Dr. Keene has been a strong leader who knows the college and UNLV very well,” Executive Vice President and Provost Diane Z. Chase said. “She is talented, and will continue to inspire academic excellence and student achievement.”
Dr. Keene’s scholarship focuses on aging and the life course with an emphasis on social stratification. She has studied gender and the relationship of family caregiving to paid work, social inequalities, death and dying, and most recently volunteerism.
As interim dean, Keene has amplified the college’s focus on faculty support and development, and continued to strengthen student success and engagement initiatives.
"I am humbled by this opportunity to serve as dean. I am so appreciative of the wonderful team of colleagues who serve with me in the dean's office and our dedicated faculty and staff across the college. We will continue our efforts to support excellent teaching and research across disciplines, and provide rich educational and engagement opportunities to ensure our students are successful in the classroom and the community."
