Dr. Jennifer Keene Named as Interim Dean for the College of Liberal Arts
The UNLV Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is pleased to announce Jennifer Keene, Ph.D., as Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, effective August 15, 2018.
Dr. Keene steps in for Chris Heavey, Ph.D., who has taken on the role of senior vice provost.
She is an active member of the UNLV community and serves on numerous committees across campus. Dr. Keene joined the UNLV faculty in 2001 after completing her graduate work at Florida State University. In 2005, she won the UNLV College of Liberal Arts William Morris Teaching Award and the UNLV Alumni Association Award for Student-Centeredness. She received the 2017-2018 Faculty Award for Excellence for outstanding service to our community and students from the UNLV Division of Educational Outreach.
Dr. Keene has served as the associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts since 2013 and became executive associate dean in 2016.
“Dr. Keene has been a strong leader who knows the college and UNLV very well,” Executive Vice President and Provost Diane Z. Chase said. “She is talented, and will continue to inspire academic excellence and student achievement.”
Dr. Keene’s scholarship focuses on aging and the life course with an emphasis on social stratification. She has studied gender and the relationship of family caregiving to paid work, social inequalities, death and dying, and most recently volunteerism.
As interim dean, Keene said she aims to continue to drive and promote the college’s work on faculty support and development, and to continue to strengthen student success and engagement initiatives.
“This is an amazing opportunity,” Dr. Keene said. “I’m thrilled and honored to take on the role of interim dean. We’re going to have a great year.”
