Diversity Hiring Initiative Information Sessions
Dear Deans and Chairs,
I am writing to update you on the support that we are developing jointly with the Office of Diversity Initiatives for your efforts in the Faculty Diversity Hiring initiative, as we discussed at Dean's Council and ALDS meetings earlier this summer.
First, just as a reminder, if you have not already please consult the explanatory memorandum that was sent to you earlier this month. This includes links to the faculty search procedure document and faculty search form, which can also be found on the policies and forms library within the Provost's website.
Secondly, I am writing to announce and invite you to two informational sessions that we are organizing with ODI, Human Resources and the president’s office, the first of which will be next Monday, September 9, 9:30 am – 11am (Student Union 218) and a second on Friday, November 1, 9:30 am – 11am (Student Union 209).
These meetings will be for the purpose of providing practical guidance on how to prepare your search plans. Specifically, ODI, Provost and President’s office staff will explain how search and/or department chairs can use the Oklahoma State University and Department of Education survey information to find national diversity data on your discipline and how to interpret the historical data from your own unit’s past searches. Human Resources will review UNLV standard search procedures including the use of the "Consensus" on-line search software. We are hoping that particularly for those units which have been authorized to conduct searches this fall, either the department chair or search committee chair or both will be able to attend.
The second meeting, on November 1, will repeat much of the same information but we imagine that this will be an opportunity for units which are not searching this fall to begin thinking ahead on how to develop search plans.
For those currently completing forms, if you would like assistance with the digital signature function of the Adobe form, please consult the written instructions on the Provost’s website and the illustrative videos which demonstrate how to create and how to enter a digital signature on the forms.
