Departure of Romeo Jackson
It is with sadness that the Office of Student Diversity & Social Justice share the resignation (effective 6/17/2021) of Assistant Director of Social Justice, Romeo Jackson. Romeo joined Student Diversity & Social Justice as the inaugural LGBTQ & Gender Program Coordinator in 2018. In their roles, Romeo has been central to helping to shape SDSJ.
Notable works include:
Creation of the Trans @ UNLV Guide & What's Tea?: The Queer and Trans People of Color Cultural Resource Guide
Serving on the All Gender Bathroom Task that has converted over 100 single-use bathrooms to All-Gender Bathrooms
Supported the expansion of SDSJ educational sessions from 0 sessions to over 7 unique sessions
Developed a diversity and Inclusion module for pre-orientation
Served on the Trans Care Support Team with Student Wellness staff to share expert knowledge on supporting trans students
Most importantly, Romeo has built long-lasting and meaningful relationships with UNLV students
In addition, Romeo has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters while at UNLV. While also having a robust speaking presence at national and international conferences.
Romeo is known on campus for their fun-loving energy and fierce commitment to supporting marginalized students. They will surely be missed!
