CoRE Convening Meetings - You're Invited!
Research has shown that cross-disciplinary teams produce the most impactful research and have the highest citations. Additionally, these collaborative efforts accelerate impactful research, external funding, and deeply enrich educational programs. For these reasons, UNLV has a vested interest in developing and fostering interdisciplinary collaborative research and education through the Collaborative Research and Education (CoRE) initiative.
CoRE aims to pool the collective talents of UNLV from all disciplinary areas to optimize research and education outcomes. CoRE is as an incubator for new ideas and new thinking at UNLV. The institutional aspiration of CoRE is to facilitate a cultural change that augments and accelerates interdisciplinary research and education initiatives for the greater success of students and faculty, the institution as a whole, and Southern Nevada and beyond.
Through the initial campus-wide summit meetings, six CoRE cluster areas have emerged: Renewable Resources, Sustained and Emergent Learning Technologies, Health, Gaming, IT/Data Security, and Urban and Social Issues. Further development of initiatives around these CoRE areas does not exclude the emergence of new CoRE clusters areas, nor does it solidify permanence of those listed.
CoRE campus convening meetings are ongoing and aim to:
- provide a venue for faculty to meet one another and engage in scholarly discourse
- inspire interdisciplinary networks among faculty with like interests
- promote organic high impact collaborative activities
- consult with faculty to further develop CoRE cluster areas to the eventual development of formalized interdisciplinary education and research programs
This fall, CoRE meetings have been scheduled as listed below. The primary aim of these meetings is to identify broad but well-defined research programs within each cluster area. Peruse the cluster area meetings below, pick the topic(s) that interest you most and RSVP your attendance.
