College of Liberal Arts Dean Named Senior Vice Provost
The UNLV Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost is pleased to name Chris Heavey, Ph.D., senior vice provost, effective August 15, 2018.
Heavey replaces Senior Vice Provost Carl Reiber, who left UNLV in June to take a new post at Georgia Southern University.
Heavey has served as dean for the College of Liberal Arts the past two years, and before that was the university’s vice provost for undergraduate education. Heavey also has served as an associate dean for the college. Heavey joined UNLV more than 20 years ago as a psychology professor.
“Chris brings to the office a wealth of experience and understanding of UNLV,” Executive Vice President and Provost Diane Z. Chase said. “He will be instrumental in helping us drive strategic initiatives for student success, academic excellence and campus climate.”
Chase said the current reporting structure for deans and vice provosts will remain the same. Heavey’s role will be as a senior advisor to the provost, and will support other vice provost offices.
Heavey said he is looking forward to stepping into the new position.
“This position has a broad reach across campus,” Heavey said. “I have been with UNLV so long, I have a good sense of how the campus works. I know the other deans well and many of the department chairs, as well as many of the folks in student affairs, business and finance, and other offices. I’m looking forward to this new opportunity.”
Chase said she plans to name an interim dean for the College of Liberal Arts, and search for a permanent replacement.
