Cell Phone Ban for Campus Driving
(NOTICE) - Cell phone ban in effect on campus
UNLV Department of Police Services Notice:
Per NRS 484B.165, the use of handheld wireless communications devices for texting, verbal, and/or other communications while operating a motor vehicle is unlawful in the state of Nevada. It should be noted that UNLV is a public institution, and as such, this ban will be enforced on UNLV's roadways and parking locations by the UNLV Department of Police Services. The law does provide for some exceptions to the ban, including the following:
1.) The utilization of hands-free technology (e.g., Bluetooth) while operating a motor vehicle.
2.) Firefighters, emergency medical technicians, ambulance attendants, law enforcement officers, and other emergency responders are exempt from the ban during emergencies and when cell phones are used within the scope of their employment.
3.) Voice-operated and global positioning or navigation systems that are affixed to a vehicle are exempt.
