Cardio Spider, NEON A.I.R.
Cardio Spider, Spring 2017 NEON A.I.R. (4/3/17 - 4/15/17)
Five video sketches by Las Vegas improv troupe Cardio Spider will screen in the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art lobby from April 3 - 15 while an interactive wall project invites visitors to create their own jokes. Insightful and funny, the six members of Cardio Spider use comedy skits and other performance styles to explore contemporary ideas about race, gender, relationships, and current affairs.
“Someone comes in with an idea,” they explain. “We discuss it, we riff off it, we pull and stretch it toward the absurd. Inspiration usually comes from noticing a conflict, a thorn, a twist in what we perceive as normal.”
This twelve-day installation is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Barrick and the Neon Museum. Cardio Spider is the Neon’s third annual Spring Performing Artist-in-Residence. The NEON Residency is sponsored by the Nevada Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Neon Museum, and the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art.
