Assistant Professor of African American Literature, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

The Department of English at UNLV seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of African American literature. Appointment will begin in fall 2018, and applicants must have Ph.D. in English or a related field by time of appointment.

Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization and other literature courses required for the major. Though we invite applications from candidates with expertise in any historical period or subfield, we are especially interested in those with strengths in one or more of the following areas: African diasporic literatures; critical race theory; hemispheric, transnational, and/or multi-ethnic literatures; cultural studies; and gender and sexuality.

The English Department at UNLV houses several scholarly and creative journals, including MELUS (journal of The Society for the Study of the Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States), and the College of Liberal Arts is home to a robust, multi-disciplinary community of scholars in American Studies. The English Department is also closely affiliated with the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute (BMI), an international literary center bringing writers into the heart of public life.
