Aristocrat Technologies Donates Laptops to Core Academy Scholars Participating in UNLV International Gaming Institute YES Program

Jun. 28, 2017

The next generation of Nevada hospitality industry leaders have another resource in their education arsenal, thanks to the generosity of Aristocrat Technologies. Today the global gaming supplier gifted laptops to each of the 20 students participating in the five-week Young Executive Scholars (YES) Hospitality & Tourism Program.

The program, developed by UNLV’s International Gaming Institute (IGI) and Core Academy, powered by The Rogers Foundation, is a first-of-its-kind summer program for high school students, with the goal of nurturing a strong pipeline of homegrown talent to enter into Nevada’s leading industry.

The laptops will assist the students in completing their team assignments, a challenging academic project in which the scholars form groups and apply key program learnings to imagine and design a world-class integrated resort.

Roberto Coppola, vice president of advanced products at Aristocrat, said, “As a gaming technology company, we understand the importance of building and attracting the next generation of talent, and we are thrilled to support UNLV, the International Gaming Institute, and the YES Program in their efforts to develop home-grown talent in Las Vegas.”

Following the program, the students may keep the laptops to assist them with future academic endeavors.

Modeled after the IGI and University of Nevada, Reno’s world-class Executive Development Program for industry professionals, the rigorous five-week YES program takes place on the UNLV campus. The program is designed for scholars to discover the managerial and executive-level career opportunities available to them in the hospitality and tourism industry, gain insight into the college experience at UNLV, and develop new skills to excel in the classroom today and the workplace of tomorrow. Scholars also have the opportunity to interact with some of the most prominent figures in the hospitality industry, including senior-level executives from across Las Vegas’ multiple Fortune 500 integrated resort companies and leading academic experts in the field.
