Administrative Faculty Development Day

​The President's Office in coordination with the Faculty Senate's Administrative Faculty Committee is excited to sponsor Administrative Faculty Development Day on September 28, 2017. The event will be held in the Student Union Ballroom beginning at 8 a.m. with a light continental breakfast and concluding at 1:30pm with lunch and prize drawings.  
 
There will be two break out sessions where you can choose what breakout you would like to attend.  Our key note speaker is UNLV's new Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Barbee Myers Oakes.
 
We encourage you to attend as much of the event as possible.  Due to space constraints, this event is limited to 300 attendees and reservations will be on a “first come, first served basis.” Please complete this survey to reserve your spot, and choose which breakout session you would like to attend, each breakout session has a limited number of spots due to room constraints.  

​Brief Description of the First Breakout Session:

Dr. Watson & Dr. Hayes - Competing Priorities? Top Tier Initiatives at MSIs
The session will provide an overview of the history and emergence of the MSI designation in IHEs.  In addition, the session will address evidence-based practices that serve to enhance diversity-related impact associated with meeting Top Tier metrics.

Dr. Nancy Lough - Building Teams using Diverse Strengths
Come learn about different strategies and skills you can use when developing and working in teams with members that have unique and diverse strengths.

Charles Courtney - Motivation: Increase the Positive and Reduce the Negative
Daily stress can greatly reduce motivation and energy levels. We will look at how practices such as mindfulness and positive affirmations can reduce the negative effects of this type of stress. We will also look at how to increase positive stress outcomes that lead to high motivation levels.

Brief Description of the Second Breakout Session:


Andrew Reid - Today's Student: Millennial & Gen Z Basics
Are you struggling to connect with the students you're advising?  Do they constantly seem to do things that you find rude (like texting while you're talking to them!)?  This session will cover some best practices for working with today's students and the Top 5 things you need to know when working with them.
 
Professional Development Advancement Panel
Question and Answer Panel where members of the panel will answer questions that are submitted via this survey. Panel members include: Nancy B. Rapoport Special Counsel to UNLV President, Dr. Mary Croughan Vice President for Research and Economic Development, Lilana Magana UNLV Human Resources Benefits Coordinator and Jennifer Kennedy Chair, Administrative Faculty Committee.
