Many students are searching for ways to pay for all or some of their tuition. Journalism and Media Studies has awarded scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500, totaling more than $15,000 in scholarship money each year.

Eligibility requirements: Fall 2018 through Spring 2019

  1. Full-time status during the 2018–2019 academic year:
    • Full-time undergraduate is defined as 12 or more credits.
    • Full-time graduate status is defined as 9 or more credits.
    • Teaching and graduate assistants need 6 credits per semester.
  2. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. There are specific eligibility requirements for some scholarships.
    • Please make note in your statement of goals if you:
      • Are a single parent.
      • Are returning to school after an extended period.
      • Must work full time while taking classes.
      • Are the first in your family to attend college.

Application Instructions

To apply, submit one copy of the following to the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, located in the main office:

  1. A completed Hank Greenspun scholarship form** and a completed Federal Student Aid form.
  2. A current sealed UNLV transcript from the registrar’s office.
    • If you have yet to complete a semester at UNLV:
      • First-semester freshman — high school transcript
      • First-semester graduate student — undergraduate transcript
      • Transfer student — transcript from previous institution
    • Report cards are not accepted.
    • Do not ask the registrar to send your transcript. It must be submitted with your other material.
  3. A one-page, typed, double-spaced statement describing your academic and professional goals.
    • If you are applying for a Special Needs scholarship, you must describe your special need(s) in your statement.
  4. At least one sample of your work:
    • Writing sample, audio/visual project, web-based, etc.
    • Include other supporting materials you would like to have considered.
