Typography

Consistent use of clear and modern typography plays an important role in shaping a brand image. Consistent use of our typeface within all outward-facing marketing and communications will go a long way to ensure a singular and appealing brand impression.

Legacy Font – Identity Only

The monogram UNLV logo and the unit signature marks contain elements of a font that was specifically used to design those marks. This font will remain relevant as a legacy font only so far as it applies to the design of those graphic elements and is not for use within design or copy for marketing materials. It is strongly encouraged that you not use it, or any similar font, within other types of communications, as it has a dated aesthetic when used for body copy within publications, and hampers the overall image of UNLV when used outside the logo and signature designs.

Roboto – Our Official Marketing & Advertising Typeface

First launched in the 2016 redesign of the unlv.edu website, Roboto has been adopted as our official typeface for marketing and advertising applications. Along with our website, you’ll see it used in broadcast media, ads, displays, banners, and publications. It is available in light, thin, regular, medium, bold, and black in slab, regular, and condensed fonts. The clean, modern styling and flexibility of use demonstrated by this font makes it a great choice for visual communications where typefaces affect the visual impression in such an important way. Roboto offers a flexibility of function that covers the full spectrum of design application.

Substitutes: Roboto is available from Google fonts as a free download with no restrictions under an Apache License*. When creating emails and office documents, it is recommended to use one of several acceptable substitutes such as Arial, Helvetica, Calibri, or other simple sans-serif typefaces. These fonts function well across platforms and are commonly found on any desktop Mac or PC.
