Description
Join the Native UNLV Collective for Native American Heritage Month, as Dr. P. Jane Hafen, Professor Emerita, English, discusses her book, Help Indians Help Themselves: The Later Writings of Gertrude Simmons Bonnin (Zitkala-Sa).
Zitkala-Sa, Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, gained literary and historical attention for her boarding school narratives and her involvement with the Society of American Indians. She also played a major role in arguing for the American Indian Citizenship act in 1924 and governmental reforms until her passing in 1938. Looking at some of her later works reveals a powerful voice for sovereignty and persistence.
