Modeled after the critically-acclaimed PBS documentary, "MAKERS: Women Who Make America," the UNLV Women’s Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN), in partnership with Vegas PBS, produced "MAKERS: Women in Nevada History." The program, designated a Sesquicentennial Event, is a three-part series developed in recognition of the 100th anniversary of Nevada’s woman suffrage and shares the stories of extraordinary women who have shaped Nevada.

The three one-half-hour programs debuting in October 2014 are:

Episode One - “The Groundbreakers” can be viewed Oct. 21, 10 p.m., Oct. 27, 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 28, 12:30 a.m.
This episode begins in the early 1900s with women’s involvement in building communities, businesses, and education. It highlights the campaign to win the vote in the state six years before the federal amendment. It takes us through World War Two and the participation of women in the southern Nevada war industries. Featured MAKERS include: Anne Martin, Bird Wilson, Helen Stewart, Maude Frazier, and Magnesium Maggie.

Episode Two – “Moving Forward” can be viewed Oct. 28, 10 p.m., Nov. 3, 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 4, 12:30 a.m.
This episode opens with women workers in Las Vegas hotel-casinos and the entry of women into gaming, construction, politics, and business. It highlights individual women who achieved significant success in their field as well as the agents of change who participated in the legal transformations in women’s rights during the 1970s and 1980s. Featured MAKERS include: Claudine Williams, Nancy Houssels, Kitty Rodman, Lubertha Johnson, Sarann Preddy, Sue Wagner, Barbara Vucanovich, Linda Rivera, and many, many more.

Episode Three – “Into the Future” can be viewed Nov. 4, 10 p.m., Nov. 10, 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 11, 12:30 a.m.
This episode profiles a selection of today’s women of achievement. They come from a variety of communities in southern Nevada. Renee West, Barbara Buckley, Pat Mulroy, Rose McKinney-James, Carolyn Goodman, Rosemary Flores, and Tina Kunzer-Murphy are a small sample. The program is not and cannot be a portrait of all the women who make Nevada great, but a sample of those who represent the world of opportunities available to women today.
