Ted Hartwell, associate reseach scientist at Desert Research Institute, will speak at an upcoming Virtual Science Café Las Vegas. His virtual presentation is titled, "A Study of the Impact of Problem Gambling in Nevada Tribal Communities, and an Update on Impacts of COVID-19 to Tribal Gaming."
Nevada’s problem gambling prevalence rate is among the highest in the nation, with an estimated six percent of the state’s adult citizens suffering from a gambling problem. A recent DRI study suggests that tribal communities in the state may be even more adversely affected, even in cases where no commercial gambling opportunities are nearby. In this virtual presentation, Hartwell will discuss what distinguishes recreational gambling from a gambling disorder, the results of the aforementioned study, and the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on Indian gaming.
The virtual presentation will be presented via Webex.
