“Viral Evolution: Variation within Virus Populations”
with Dr. Christy Strong
Assistant Professor-in-Residence, UNLV College of Sciences
School of Life Sciences

Nobel laureate Dr. Wendell Stanley may have said it best when he first referred to a virus as occupying "the twilight zone of life". From HIV to SARS-CoV-2, virus populations evolve and often end up affecting humans in unique ways. Understanding viral evolution is one key to understanding how to treat viruses and how they may affect public health. As a virologist at UNLV, Dr. Christy Strong’s experience studying how viruses mutate and evolve has led her to ask how these changes ultimately affect our lives on a daily basis.
