UNLV Fostering Scholars: Welcome Back Party 2022

Aug. 23, 2022, 4pm to 6pm

Campus Location

Office/Remote Location

Room 207

The UNLV Fostering Scholars Program is excited to welcome back our returning students and welcome our incoming UNLV Fostering Scholars students and any other students who experienced foster care. We like you all so much that we're throwing you a party!

Join us on Tuesday, August 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Student Union 207 for food, fun, games, giveaways, and some prizes. Please complete the RSVP form by Friday, August 19 so we can plan for the correct number of PARTY-cipants!

We're so excited that you're with us. While you're hanging with us and having fun, we will share some brief new program updates. We want to allow you time before the fall semester kick-off to get together in person, play some Jackbox TV, and other games while you munch on a nacho bar from Nacho Daddy.

You will hear briefly from a new member of the UNLV faculty, Dr. Kenyon Whitman. Dr. Whitman is also a foster care alumnus and the former Director of the Guardian Scholars program at UC Riverside. Hear how he succeeded in college through his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs and what valuable advice he has to share. Dr. Whitman will also share about the research he's doing to better increase access to education and services for young people who age out of foster care, and how your voice can be heard in the process. You will also hear from other UNLV alumni about how they succeeded at UNLV.

If you have been in foster care and are a student at UNLV, please visit the UNLV Fostering Scholars website to learn more about the program. If have any questions, you can contact the Fostering Scholars Program Coordinator, Heather Richardson, at heather.richardson@unlv.edu or our Fostering Scholars general mailbox at fosteringscholars@unlv.edu and a member of our staff will get back to you.
