The Concert Singers perform the jubilant “Exultate Deo” by Italian Baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti and the tender “Grace Before Sleep” by contemporary American composer Susan Labarr, set to the poetry of Sara Teasdale. The Las Vegas Master Singers, one of the city’s premiere choral organizations and chorus-in-residence for the Las Vegas Philharmonic, explore sacred music by Italian Renaissance master, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, along with the meditative poetry of Lebanese-American writer Kahlil Gibran in composer David Brunner’s “O Music,” and Michael Hennagin’s “Give Me the Splendid Silent Sun,” with poetry adapted from Walt Whitman’s famous “Leaves of Grass.”
At the conclusion of the concert, all UNLV choir alumni and friends are invited to join in the traditional singing of the “UNLV Alma Mater,” written by internationally acclaimed composer and UNLV choir alumnus, Eric Whitacre.
