Description
The College of Liberal Arts' University Forum Lecture Series presents Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and Female Celebrity: "There Was a Star Danced," a talk by Lezlie C. Cross, assistant professor, Department of Theatre, UNLV.
Beatrice, from Much Ado About Nothing, is a beloved Shakespearean heroine. Witty and loving, Beatrice has become a reflection of modern womanhood. This lecture focuses on the actresses who played Beatrice in the late nineteenth century and will demonstrate how this role brought female stars – and feminism – to American stages.
