Office/Remote Location

Please join the College of Liberal Arts for a University Forum Lecture titled, "The Reluctant Rescuer: From Schindler’s List to Hotel Rwanda,"a talk by Lawrence Baron, professor emeritus, history department, San Diego State University.

Why do certain historical heroes capture the public imagination at a particular time? Using the cinematic depictions of rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust and of Tutsis during the Rwandan Genocide, this lecture examines the contemporary reasons why the courageous Raoul Wallenberg became the emblematic hero of the Holocaust during the 1980s and was supplanted by morally ambiguous rescuers like Oskar Schindler and Paul Rusesabagina since the 1990s.
