Description
LGBTQ people experience criminal victimization at higher rates than the general population, report crime victimization to the police at lower rates than those who are not LGBTQ+, and have disproportionate contact with the criminal justice system.
Drawing on survey data from the first nationally representative sample of LGBTQ people’s experiences with and perceptions of law enforcement, Professor Jenness will discuss findings related to LGBTQ people's views of police, support for “defund the police,” and willingness to report crime to law enforcement — all in the context of LGBTQ+ communities as both over-policed and underserved by law enforcement.
