University Forum: Memories at Las Vegas' Mob Museum
The College of Liberal Arts' University Forum lecture series presents Open City: Negotiating Memories at Las Vegas' Mob Museum a talk by Sara C. VanderHaagen, Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, UNLV.
How does the place of a museum influence the stories it tells, and how do the needs of the surrounding community shape the memories it shares? By examining the exhibits, commentary, and artifact displays within the Mob Museum, Dr. VanderHaagen shows how this museum tries – and, sometimes, fails – to create memories of the Mob that can serve as both an attraction to national and international tourists and a source of pride for the local community.
This event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts.
Co-sponsored by the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs, and the Department of Communication Studies
