University Forum Lecture: Connecting Circles of Research

Mar. 21, 2018, 7:30pm to 9pm

Office/Remote Location

The College of Liberal Arts' University Forum lecture series presents "Connecting Circles of Research/Activists Knowledge: Violence and Migration in the 21st Century" a talk by Bandana Purkayastha, Professor of Sociology and Asian American Studies, University of Connecticut.

This talk will draw upon strands of conversation on migration and violence in the Global South to discuss some of the challenges and dilemmas of creating truly global conversations in the 21st century. Based on research conducted in North America and the Indian Subcontinent, it will outline some of the different approaches to understanding violence and migration in different parts of the world, and the role of researchers and activists in this process. At the heart of this talk is the thorny question about creating conceptual frameworks that pay attention to location, language, and voices.
