Ann Margret and Elvis Presley perform at U.N.L.V.

The College of Liberal Arts' University Forum lecture series presents Bright Light City, Bright Light University: "Viva Las Vegas" and UNLV a talk by Larry Gragg, Professor of History and Political Science, Missouri University of Science & Technology.

When released by MGM in 1964, Viva Las Vegas, starring Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret, served as a musical advertisement for the city. It also gave seven-year-old Nevada Southern University a moment of national visibility during a dance sequence involving the two stars at the school’s gym, now the Barrick Museum of Art. One of the top grossing films of the year, Viva Las Vegas introduced the nation to the song many still consider the city’s unofficial anthem.
