The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a life-changing competition for collegiate students and an intensive course in sustainability for consumers. It’s no surprise that many of the top-notch students who have participated in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon go on to have successful careers in architecture and engineering.
This year UNLV’s 2017 team is one of 12 university teams worldwide participating in the 2017 competition. In addition to a home that blends cost-effectiveness, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency, the team has chosen to design a home that meets a growing social need — an aging-in-place home.
On Oct 13, the team is hosting an event for alumni and friends of UNLV inviting all the UNLV alumni in Denver to come out and celebrate their achievements. A private tour will be given showcasing the exterior and interior of the house along with a presentation outlining the design concepts. The team is hoping to bridge the connection between students and alumni to bring tomorrow’s leaders to light.
