Description

The UNLV College of Sciences is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018-19. To commemorate the anniversary, Steve Rowland from the Department of Geoscience will present a public lecture. His talk is titled, "Ice Age Mammoths of Southern Nevada." Southern Nevada has a rich fossil record of Ice Age animals. Dr. Rowland will discuss the latest research he is conducting with his graduate students on the paleoecology of Columbian mammoths from Amargosa Valley and Tule Springs Fossil Beds.

In 1958, UNLV’s College of Science and Mathematics was formed. The following year, Robert Smith began serving as the founding dean with nearly 500 undergraduate and 41 graduate students enrolled. In Fall 2018, the college had approximately 2,700 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students.
