The UNLV College of Sciences is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018-19. To commemorate the anniversary, Jason Steffen from the Department of Physics and Astronomy will present a public lecture. His talk is titled, "The Search for Distant Worlds." Thousands of planets have been seen orbiting distant stars—each more strange than the last. Dr. Steffen will discuss how we discovered these planets, what we have learned from them, and his history and work on NASA's Kepler mission.
In 1958, UNLV’s College of Science and Mathematics was formed. The following year, Robert Smith began serving as the founding dean with nearly 500 undergraduate and 41 graduate students enrolled. In Fall 2018, the college had approximately 2,700 undergraduate students and 250 graduate students.
