Science Café Las Vegas: Physicist Ashkan Salamat

Oct. 4, 2017, 7pm to 8pm

Office/Remote Location

McMullan's Irish Pub - 4650 W. Tropicana Ave., #110

Ashkan Salamat, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, will speak at an upcoming Science Café Las Vegas. His talk is titled, "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

The idea of finding a passage or even digging our way to the center of the Earth has captivated the imagination for centuries. In truth, what we find is the centre of planets to be incredibly dense where pressure and temperature conditions are so extreme that matter exhibits remarkable new properties. In this talk Salamat will have an overview of the latest scientific advancements that allow us a portal into these environments and push the imagination further than ever before as we begin to understand the behavior of gas giants, such as Jupiter, and the recently discovered exoplanets.

Come join others for a lively science discussion, delicious food, and fun. Come at 6:30 p.m. to order your food and mingle. Those under 21 are welcome.
