Description
Paul Schulte, associate professor in the UNLV School of Life Sciences, will speak at an upcoming Science Café Las Vegas. His talk is titled, "How Does Water Climb Tall Trees?"
As the world's largest organisms, tall trees like redwoods in California and Eucalypts in Australia reach heights of 100 meters or more. Why is this a problem? How do they get water up that high? Incredibly, they do it without expending any metabolic energy for pumping water. This talk will discuss these questions about tall trees and their amazing abilities, including how they can protect and repair the water pathway.
Come join others for a lively science discussion, delicious food, and fun. Come at 6:30 p.m. to order your food and mingle. Those under 21 are welcome.
