Professor Woody Fischer from the California Institute of Technology will be the featured speaker at the Russell Frank Astronomy Lecture Series. His talk is titled, "The Rise of Oxygen — A Planetary Revolution."

Two and half billion years ago the rise of oxygen rewrote life's recipe book. We will show how this process emerged at the midway point of earth's history using evidence from biology, chemistry and geology. We will discuss how the geological records of Earth and Mars can be used to generate expectations for the occurrence of oxygen (and perhaps life) on planets outside our solar system.

This talk is intended for a general audience, including enthusiasts of all backgrounds and ages.
