At 3:00, Dr. Ken Hargreaves, professor and chair of the department of Endodontics at University of Texas in San Antonio, will present “The Opioid Crisis and Development of Novel Analgesics.” His lecture will review the history and current status of the opioid crisis, now termed “substance use disorder” (SUD), and identify a newly discovered pain mechanism and the development of novel analgesics to prevent SUD. Dr. Hargreaves will also describe the actions of oxidized lipids in pain production, the development of novel analgesics, and the role that physicians and dentists play in the prevention of SUD.

At 4:00, the school will host postgraduate research presentations, during which the top finishers from the orthodontic and pediatric research competition will share their projects' findings.
