Reproductions by an Artist: John Stoelting

Join the museum for informal and in depth discussions about art and ideas.

This month the Barrick welcomes special guest John Stoelting who will discuss the techniques and materials used to remake three artifacts from the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum and the Michael C and Mannetta Braunstein Collection. Stoelting will also touch on the history and methods of metal working in the pre-Columbian Americas. His interest in the Barrick’s cultural collection of bone and copper artifacts led to his research and experimentation with these materials. Ultimately, Stoelting’s objects were made so that a copy of a several-hundred-year-old artifact could be experienced, and held by visitors. Both the originals and reproductions will be on view for this event.

John Stoelting (UNLV MFA, 2013) lives and works in Las Vegas. He is an instructor at UNLV for undergraduate sculpture and drawing.
